The Story

Makrana marble, quarried in the Rajasthani town of Makrana, is the same luminous white stone the Mughals chose for the Taj Mahal. Prized for its purity and fine grain, it has been hand-carved and embellished by Rajasthani kaarigars for centuries. The raised gold ornament seen here descends from Mughal decorative arts—floral arabesques, jali lattices and peacock medallions—applied by hand so that each piece carries the same regal vocabulary that once adorned imperial palaces. Its subject is a study of fine jewellery, capturing the kundan and gemstone craft of the royal courts.
