The Story

Rajput, or Rajasthani, miniature painting grew in the royal courts of Mewar, Marwar, Bundi and Kishangarh from the 17th century onward. Bolder in colour and more lyrical than its Mughal cousin, this tradition celebrates devotion, the eternal romance of Radha and Krishna, the musical moods of the Ragamala, and the pageantry of courtly life—painted in glowing natural pigments on handmade wasli paper. It portrays Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and patron of beginnings, an auspicious presence in any home.
